How time has flown this half term, today was the sixth and final parent workshop.
This week Mrs Lyons planned for the group to have a look at Mathletics and Spelladrome. We also revisited our programming skills, but this time using Mrs Lyons’s ipads and we looked at a couple of programming apps – Kodable and Lightbot.
To finish the final workshop, we had some fun with the ipads.
We used the Photo Booth feature and here Mrs Lyons has added some of our best using the app PicCollage.
The focus for our fifth workshop was looking at more resources school have purchased to support English and Maths.
Mrs Lyons had planned for the group to look at Reading Eggs, Mathletics and Spelladrome. So we first looked at Reading Eggs, we logged on and we each had a set of head phones, one of our mums already uses this so was able to share how this has already helped her five year old to read.
We completed the reading test and started to look at all the different activities that we could do, before we knew it the hour workshop was over!
Looks like it’s Mathletics and Spelladrome will have to wait till our last week session next week.

The workshops ran for six weeks in the summer term and we had lots of hands on , here you can see some of our PurpleMash work!

The focus for our fourth week was coding, but this time not remote controlled toys, we were using 2Code in Purplemash.
We started with Fun with Fish and worked our way through some of the other tasks, Mrs Lyons said that our children will enjoy using 2Code and will not realise that they are having fun and learning !
The focus for our third parent’s workshop was programming.
The computing curriculum states that our children should start to learn how to program from an early age.
So, today our parents were trying out our BeeBots, they planned and tested their programs and then set each other challenges like using the pause function.
By the end of the session everyone laughing and agreed that they learnt new skills and had fun!
The focus for our second parent’s workshop was PurpleMash.
We logged in and used the drawing tools, we looked at the books in Serial Mash and we even had time for some maths games.
Today was the first of our parent workshop, ran by Mrs Lyons from Bolton SICT. The focus for this session was Online Safety.

Our Computing Parent Workshops start this week.
They will run for six weeks starting 2.30pm, we will be covering Online Safety, Purplemash and Serial Mash, Blogging and Coding.
There will be lots of hands on and chance to ask questions about how you can support your child at home with their computing skills.
